Nuclear Capabilities

I think it is hypocritical for nations that hold nuclear weapons to tell other countries that they cannot have nuclear weapons. Iran has the right to advance. They have the right to pursue nuclear energy for civilian use. Nuclear weapons on the other hand is a difficult issue. Because of Iran's expressed hatred of Israel I think it would be dangerous for them to have nuclear weapons. Also, because of Iran's close ties with terrorist organizations I believe it would be dangerous for them to have nuclear weapons. Limitations should be put on Iran's nuclear capabilities, they should only be able to use their nuclear energy for civilian use. It should not be used to bring harm to others. The world as a whole should not be allowed to produce nuclear weapons. If I were President, I would draw a "red line" when evidence of Iran's production of a nuclear weapon was gathered. If this "red line" was reached I would take the issue to the U.N. Security Council for evaluation. It is not the entirely the United States problem. We need to work together with other countries to figure out what the best action to take is. It would not be worth it to make enemies with China, who has close economic ties with Iran, for the U.S. to put sanctions on Iran. If sanctions are the action that the U.N. Security Council chooses, at least the input from China will have been considered. As President, I would also cut off all economic ties with Iran.
