A Walk in Their Shoes
Growing up in post-revolution Iran would be very difficult. The absolute lack of personal freedom and individuality would be incredibly frightening. My first reaction to the change in regime after the revolution would probably be fear. With the morals police monitoring by daily life I would be terrified. This fear would cause me to be obedient. After awhile, however, I would began to feel oppressed and monotonous. I would begin to push the limits and express my individuality; whether by wearing colorful, elaborate hijabs, such as the girls in Children of Jihad, or by listening to American music, such as the girl in Persepolis. Growing up oppressed would leave me with a very poor opinion of the government. I would feel very strongly that the Ayatollah was ignoring the youth in Iran. I would want a new government under which I could express myself freely and speak my mind.
